I use to run a headset and speaker setup meaning both of them play sound all the time but i just turn off my speakers when i put my headset on, i dont like to have a headset on when i play "casual" games or just doing none gaming stuff on my pc. Ok so i upgraded my pc a few days ago got a new motherboard (asus ROG Strix B450-F) and cpu (AMD Ryzen 7 3800T 8-core) in preperation for a new gpu once they become available for normal humans.
